Renewal 4

John 1v8-9

In 1 John 1 verse 8, John says,

“8   If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. ”  That can sound scary but the context is John’s deep desire that we might know the love of Jesus, and his advice on how to be at peace.  Sometime we run away from admitting our faults because the uncomfortableness of facing them seems too great.  John’s next verse speaks of the peace and joy that owning up to our wrongdoing brings, “9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

On Sunday morning we shared a list of questions to help us reflect, confess and find freedom.  Let’s spend some time today reflecting on these questions and bringing our remorse and prayers to be different to Jesus.

Here are the questions to challenge us to not deceive ourselves:

  • What have I done today?  Who have I met?
  • What example have I set?
  • Who did I neglect?
  • Where did my eyes linger today?
  • Where was I blind?
  • Where did I neglect myself?
  • How did I talk about others?
  • What encouragement did I give?
  • What did I laugh at?
  • What did I do today for the hurting, the poor or the excluded?
  • What self-pride have I felt?
  • What did I avoid today?
  • Who have I prayed for?
  • What have I wanted to have today?
  • From the evidence – why was I given this day?
