Double Trouble

Many of you know I have a lovely dog called Hattie -she’s great, but for some insane reason, I thought let’s make life harder and let’s get another one. So, Winnie has come to live with us. Winnie is 10 weeks old, full of life, mischief and is great to have around.

One of the reasons I got Winnie was because Hattie suffers from separation anxiety and I thought if she has one of her own to be with all of the time that will help with it and she won’t feel sad and isolated.

When Winnie arrived, there was a look of confusion on Hattie’s face but also one of happiness when she realised that there would be another one like her! The are great together. They play together, they fight together and Winnie follows Hattie around all of the time. It is so good to see how having a sidekick is helpful for them both.

It makes us remember again the need for us to have likeminded people around us who will support us, encourage and walk through life with us. Who is there in your life that you are real with? Share what is going on and pray for and with them? It is vital we have people around us to do life with.

In Hebrews 10:24-25 it says these familiar words:

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25

  1. Who can you spur on today?

Who do you know that is up against it and struggling at the moment?

I’m reminded of the story of the swimmer from equatorial guinea who was swimming in the Sydney Olympics and he didn’t have the training and facilities those in the developed world have and he hadn’t raced the distance he was entered for. As he swam, he was taking forever and it looked as though at one point he wasn’t going to make it. What got him to the end of the race was the cheers of the crowd – they were up on their feet screaming him home. He heard them and that spurred him on.

Who can you spur on today?

  1. Who can you meet up with? – Let us not give up meeting together

This is slightly harder but who can you meet up with either via zoom, or facetime, go for a walk outside or come to one of the livestreams with?

  1. Who can you encourage?

We all need encouragement. Who can you say well done to today? Who can you say words that will build them up, inspire them and help them in the midst of all that they are going through at the moment.

The truth is, we need each other. We need people to spur us on, to meet up with us and to encourage us and those around us need that too. Maybe spend a few moments in prayer asking God to give you the opportunity today to spur people on, meet with some and encourage someone. If you do, it will really bless their life.
